Craig fell off his bike this past week and is still a little raw in the seat.  Jim let work get in the way.  With the weather being iff, Jon and John decided to not race and provide the guys a little relief.

Week 01 - May 3, 2011, The Season Begins

May 3, 2011

The 2011 sunfish season went off without a hitch.  The weather held out as expected and the wind was fairly strong for Pawtuckaway with her normal shifty patterns.  The couse was set with a easterly breeze coming out of south channel.

Race 1 - SACAF: Jon & Jim started starboard with John starting on port.  the starboard start showed its advantage by the time everyone got to A mark,  Jim was the first around A mark this season.  On the second trip to A, Jon managed to get past Jim and it became a drag race back to the finish with Jim squeeking out the first win.

Race 2 - SACACF:  Jon & Jim keep tight at the start and edged John with a little barging.  John tacked out of Jon's dirty wind early and got the edge at A mark holding on through the finish.  Jim squeesed out Jon drag racing the last leg down to the finish.

Race 3 - SACACF:  Another great start for Jim followed by Jon and John.  John broke right, Jon stayed in the middle and Jim took the left.  By this time, the Patuckaway shifts were really in play.  John, rounded A first followed by Jon and Jim and it was follow the leader through the end.

Results are:
John: 3,1,1=5
Jim: 1,2,3=6
Jon: 2,3,2=7

Week 3 - May 18, 2010

Two sailors made it for the third week of racing. The wind this evening was blowing steady and moderate from the east. Very nice for Pawtuckaway.

The first race an SACAF started with a general recall after both John and Craig were over early at the start. The second start was clean and was a tight race to A.

The second race, also an SACAF started with Craig barley brushing John at start and Craig did his penalty turns.

Results are:
John; 1,1=2
Craig; 2,2=4

Week 2 - May 11. 2010

Wind was a little light for the second week o f the 2010 season. All four sailors were able to make the event. The wind was blowing from the east similar to week one and the course was set very similar.

The first race was a SACF and Jon continued where he left off last week.

The second race finally broke Jon's winning streak. This time another John lead the pack around the marks with Jon close behind. On the lat downwind leg to home Craig and Jim came on strong with Craig passing Jon right at the end.

The third race another SACF, had Jon facing the wrong direction at the start due to the sudden loss of little wind we had.

Results are:
John; 2,1,1=4
Craig; 3,2,2=7
Jon; 1,3,4=8
Jim; 4,4,3=11

Week 1 - May 4, 2010

After a 40 minute delay due to thunder storms passing through the area, three sailors ventured out to open the 2010 season. The storms passing through left the winds coming from the west. A course was set between Turtle and Middle Islands with the A mark set toward the mouth of Mountain Brook Cove.

The first race was a SACF. Jon and John had clean starts an Jim managed to hit the start pin forcing him to do a circle.

The second race, a SACAF, started with Jim tacking around into John at the start and doing another circle. Jon beat everyone to A with John right on his tail. John snuck by on the trip back to C but Jon took a quicker tack back up to A.

The third race, another SACF, another hit from Jim. Again he tacked around and got hung up in his sheets and hit John in the pre-race maneuvers. Jon continued to dominate and Jim passed John just before the A when John tacked short as he missed the lay line and lost momentum.

Results are:
Jon; 1,1,1=3
John; 2,2,3=7
Jim; 3,3,2=8

Week 22 - September 29, 2009

What a beautiful fall night for the annual end of season Pumpkin Race. The four boats in the fleet was pleased to see that there was wind form the south as they tied their light sticks to their booms. An a mark was set with a flashing light to the west of Middle Island with the lighted C mark and committee boat just to the south of Turtle Island.

The first race was an SACAF with a pretty tight start. The Pawtuckaway winds proved challenging with big holes 90 degree wind shifts and varying speeds. Jon stayed clean and clear at the start and kept his lead while Craig, John and Jim traded places back and forth.

The second race an SACF was very similar with Jon dominating and the others trading places.

Race three, an SAF, was a bit tighter with all boats trading places at some point. Craig bringing up the rear on the downwind leg decided to adjust the position of the A mark.

Race four we sailed another SACF. with continued tight racing.

With it getting pretty dark we decided to hold a fifth race, a short SAF. Again boats were back and forth on the unpredictable beat to windward.

What a great way to end the season.

Results are:
Jon; 1,1,1,3,3=9
John; 3,2,3,1,1=10
Jim; 4,3,2,2,2=13
Craig; 2,4,4,4,4=18

Week 21 - September 22, 2009

We were skunked again on the wind. Craig, Jim and John decided to leave the fishies behind and take the committee boat for a cruise swinging by to pick up Jon waiting to see if we were sailing.

While chit chatting on the boat, Jon offered to take us skiing so we swapped out the committee boat for Jon's ski boat and Jim, Jon and John went for a ski while Craig played the role of spotter.
